Client Need
Out of the Pits, Inc. is a not for profit organization that educates the public about the true lovable nature of the American Pit Bull Terrier. Their efforts are to restore the American Pit Bull Terrier breed to the former beloved position they once had. Their main focus is education; they have several programs such as Elementary and Secondary School workshops which brings certified therapy Pit Bulls to teach children pet care and humane treatment of animals. They are also a rescue organization that has re-homed over over 3,000 dogs! Out of the Pits, Inc. needed to update their animal rescue website to make it look modern and feel welcoming.
Gilday Creative Plan
We started by assessing the existing brand and decided that we needed to expand on their original color palette. We introduced a sage green, which balanced out their main dark blue color. By adding the sage green we were able to make the website warm, friendly, and light. We wanted to make the website stand out within the pet rescue community, so we needed to make it clean, visually appealing, and bold.
The Results
We built a custom developed WordPress powered responsive animal rescue website that not only was clean and modern, but also ADA compliant to meet new internet standards on accessibility. We wanted to use images of pitbulls on the website showing the true nature of an American Pit Bull Terrier being warm-hearted, goofy, and loyal. It was important for Out of the Pits, Inc. to have images of their own dogs on their website, so they held a photo contest on their social media page in order to find great sample images of the 3,000 dogs they have re-homed. Most of the images on the website are from that photo contest, drawing the viewer in to see what these dogs are really about.
We created in-depth forms for adoption, fostering, and the Fix-A-Bull (Spay/Neuter) program for applicants to fill out and be reviewed by the Out of the Pits’ team through software called Gravity Forms. Gravity forms sends the content of the form to Out of the Pits, Inc. as well as saving it to a database for extra protection. This allowed Out of the Pits, Inc. to keep track of the different applications they receive in real time from people inquiring about their dogs.
