Founded in 2000, New York State Floodplain and Stormwater Management Association (NYSFSMA) brings together New York State professionals to foster awareness, information exchange, and cooperation in the floodplain and stormwater management fields. They needed a website redesign to be integrated with ClubExpress, an online content management system (CMS) that helps clients manage an organization’s content through a website integrated with membership databases, payment gateways, and various communications tools that helps keep an organization’s content properly structured.

Gilday Creative designed a modern “front end” website and ensured it was integrated with ClubExpress’ “back end” functionally. The front end was designed to be accessible to non-members while promoting the benefits of becoming a member.  It was also important to showcase their various and complex training information to those in the industry. We made it a point to remove as much redundant navigation as possible, and to ensure that all the newly organized and designed information was optimized for multiple devices (responsive design).

The modern and clean website design allowed for a significant amount of information to be displayed without visually overloading website visitors. Non-members can view NYSFSMA’s resource materials, upcoming events, and training resources. Members have access to member only content by signing in the content management system, and can view and participate in forums, membership directories, white papers, meeting minutes, and surveys.

As the client wanted easier ways to contact members, we updated the functionality of the contact page to allow visitors to directly contact individual board members or regional directors. We also structured the Training and Resources pages to have a navigation based on specific topics to alleviate as much redundant navigation as possible. Visitors can start with “small bites” of information to a “deep dives” of comprehensive information. This showcases that not only is membership to this organization is a valuable statewide resource, but that they are willing to educate non-members to make sure everyone is well informed on the issues at hand.

We also designed infographics to convey important information quickly to website visitors: NYSFSMA’s members by industry, members by region, statewide flooding statistics, flood insurance costs and claims, and floodplain management training programs. The infographic designs were done to be consistant with NYSFSMA’s brand and website. We also sent the infographics to the client as separate files to allow them to be used independent of the website in newsletters, trade marketing, or education materials.
