We recently designed a new logo for Mountainous Words Publishing, mountainouswords.com, an e-book publisher based in Boulder, Colorado. They focus on high-quality works of non-fiction and guide books for travel and adventure.
The creative process started with two initial logo concepts followed by two revisions, allowing the logo to evolve to its final design. The inspiration for the design came from park ranger patches, highly recognizable to the target market of hikers, bikers, skiers, and snowboarders. The “MW” icon is minimalistic and symmetrically balanced, allowing for it to make a more powerful statement and conveys mountain tops and valleys, indicative of the Mountainous Words’ genre of travel and adventure. The icons, especially the “M”, subtly hint toward the shape of open books.
Granted they are not as high as the Rockies, we used the Catskill Mountains as inspiration for the mountain range in the logo. Having the lower left Mountain peak in the forefront with a backdrop of mountain ridges of increasing lighter color hues gives a great sense of depth and conveys the expansive views of the Rockies.
The new logo will be a part of Mountainous Words’ brand strategy:
- Social Media Avatars
- Icon for e-publishing
- Website Header
- Business Cards
- Bumper Stickers
